Procedure/Outline

1)Describe rainfall - use descriptions such as "coming down in buckets", a "real gusher", "raining cats & dogs" 2)Explain that these phrases describe how much hard it rained, not how much. 3)Introduce a rain gauge Compare markings on a ruler to the rain gauge 4)Explain how a rain gauge would be more accurate than a "description" 5)explain why gauge should be away from bushes, etc. 6)Use raingauge to set up class record of rainfall. Record date, amount & time/duration 7)Pour out rain after the amount is recorded.
