Procedure/Outline |
| Read When God Made the Dakotas by Jim Kessler to your students. After each page, discuss the story and have students identify the landforms mentioned on each page and make a list of the landforms on the board. Have students choose 5 to 7 landforms from the board and make a picture or symbol to represent each chosen landform. Give each student a ring, piece of canvas, string, and needle. Sew canvas to the ring using a crisscross pattern I will show them. Paint the front of the shield white. After the white paint dries, paint th elandforms they have chosen on the Shield. Students must then discribe each landform. |

| Give students a sheet explaining the sewing procedure on the back of the shield. |
Assessments |
| Students will identify the landforms ont he shield and share what each are to students in small groups. |
