Procedure/Outline |
| Materials: magnifying glasses, magnifying water cubes, identification cards and books, water stainers, collection/observation bug jars, 4L icecream pails, life jackets, GPS(optional, weather gathering eqipment.
Student Preparation Phase(1 hr. session): Familiarize students with ID resources and GPS use (preferably outdoors and in teams of 2 or 3)
Field Work on the Prairie (1 hr) This could be done on the school yard or on a nearby field. Consider permission for observation on private land and standard field trip procedure. Have teams use observation sheets to record data.

5 Identified invertebrates using bug jars, magnifing glasses and ID resources
6 Desription of unidentified invertebrates (photograph would be helpful) for later ID
Field work on a local tributary (3 hrs.) Use lifejackets, water strainers, cubes, pails. Repeat steps from above. |
