Procedure/Outline |
| Demonstrate in a stream table or other similar setup the difference between polluted water traveling downstream where no source can be determined, and showing polluted water entering the water from a specific source, like a factory. Define the terms point and nonpoint. Try to help students understand the difficulty of the public to recognize pollution because certain practices are so commonplace. Discuss the impacts in terms of physical or chemical. Do some group thinking and use problem solving skills to think of ways to control pollution. Determine at which level individuals, local groups, state, and federal groups should be responsible. |

Assessments |
| Have students make a poster showing the effects of pollution on our environment. Challenge them to be creative, funny, or intense. Have students volunteer to do some ecological restoration or organize a community clean up day in which proper disposal of chemicals and etc... can be done. |
