Procedure/Outline

Group students in pairs. (An even number of groups if required.) Each pair will be assigned a different tree. (I use the city park in the block next to the school where there are a wide variety of species.) Students will identify the species of tree using a dichotomous key and mark a waypoint at the tree. Groups will meet at a central point and exchange GPS devices. Students will navigate to the waypoint marked by the other group and identify the tree. Students will again meet in a central location and the two pairs will share their results and work together to correct any discrepencies that they might have.
