Procedure/Outline |
| Warm-up
Ask students to think of books, movies, cartoons, or comics that they enjoy. Can they recall any references to water in these resources? The teacher should share some with the students.
Activity
1. Every foot-and-a-half on a long strand of yarn, attach a tag with a water word of phrase written on it (e.g., blizzard, snow skier, avalanche, snowcapped mountain). Coil the yarn into the bottom of a box. Have students sit in a circle; hand the box to the first student. Tell the student to pull the yarn out of the box until the first tag appears.
2. Have the student read the tag, then create a sentence using the word(s). Pass the box to the next student and repeat the process. Tape record the sentences.
3. Write the sentences on paper; make copies an distribute them to students. Working in pairs, students should try to arrange the sentences into a logical story (yarn). They may add sentences of their own to the "yarn."
4. Have the students read their "yarns" out loud to the group. |
