Students will utilized GPS (Ozi Explorer) GIS - ArcView to plot way
points from sites entered in from around the US where their teacher (Carmen
Sandiego's distant cousin) has traveled during this past summer, then from a
list of activities choose at least one

Procedure/ Outline
|
Students will be instructed in the use of GPS and Ozi-Explorer to download way-points. They will apply this information to plot way-points from their teacher on a map of the US (electronic and then they may transfer that to a paper map or do a layout.) Students can pick from a list of activities such as measuring distance between places, total mileage, historical significance of area, trace the route in a road map, compare it to the Corps of Discovery route, do a biography about a person from one of the cities, etc

Discussion could be related to how teachers spend their summer time - training for their professional development or enjoyment (or both). Teacher also traveled to Oregon as a 75th birthday present to her mother. It will work well to gather the way-points for this project! |
