Objectives

1.Students will describe the movement of water within the water cycle and identify the states of water as it moves trough the water cycle.

Standards Addressed

None

Materials Needed

Found on page 161 of "Project Wet" book

Time Requirement

2 - 50 minute periods

Procedure/outline

1) Students will be water cycle molecules
2) Categorize the places water can move through in the nine water cycles clouds, plants, animals, rivers, oceans, lakes, ground water, soil and glaciers Write names of places on paper and display around activity room.
3) Assign each student to water station
4) Have student discuss how water can move from station to station
5) Have students roll dice to determine which station they go to next. Use beads of different colors at the different stations to help students remember the cycle of the water molecule they did
6) Tell students as they move from station to station how the water cycle works. 7) Students should keep track of movements

Modifications/Adaptions/ Extensions

Have students investigate how water becomes polluted and is cleaned as it moves through the water cycle

Assessment

Write a story describing the movement of water

Other Comments

It should be noted that when the water moves as a liquid the students move in pairs, representing many water molecules together in a water droplet. When they become water vapor and become clouds, the partners separate and move alone as individual water molecules
