|
A bag with samples that could be found near a stream, ie., cattails, pebble, shell, twig, feather, grass. Pencil and crayons. Copies of the Sensory Observation Sheet (found on page 195 in "Project Wet"

2 - 50 minute periods |
Procedure/ Outline
|
1. Pass out bags with stream samples. Have students shut their eyes and feel what is in the bag and talk about what they think their samples are.
2. Pass out Sensory Observation Sheets. Instruct students that when they observe recordings with one of their senses (smell, touch, hear, see) they can record it by drawing picture.
3. Go over Stream Safety rules.
4. Throughout trip have students help sharpen their senses by having a quiet time (listening), covering their eyes (sight), plugging their nose (smell).

Have students create a mobile from the items seen, smelled, heard
and touched at the stream |
Assessment
|
Have students record sights, smells, sounds, and touched items when
at the stream. Add pictures of recorded items form stream on Sensory Observation
Sheet. Have students share their pictures with the class
