Objectives

To determine the effects of shape and materials on dwellings of the past and future

Standards Addressed

Science: 7: History & Culture's Influence on Science, inquiry, research

Materials Needed

Research materials - library and Internet; craft supplies to make actual models of dwellings

Time Requirement

5 class periods

Procedure/ Outline

Present students with a goal to determine the reasons for the shapes of at least 5 different types of human dwelling structures. Give them time to research and discuss with others in the class as to whys and why-nots. Develop rubrics. Select one of the researched shapes and make a model of it. Write up your presentation using research on all the shapes to compare to the one your selected. Present to the class

Go to Manitoba's Museum of Man & Nature to see actual models

Assessment

Rubric for Presentation and Model to be developed prior to preparing presentations or making models. Self and peer evaluation with rubrics besides my evaluation
