4. Analyze water-related sayings of diverse cultures water concerns

Materials Needed

Song "Raining Cats and Dogs" from Weather Report (Bad Wolf Press) (Musical)
Copies of Water Sayings, Water Illustrations and Water Scenarios from around the world
"Project Wild" Curriculum Guide Book, pages 430-441.
Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, Rainsticks made from other class period

Time Requirement

Prep: 30 minutes; Activity: 5 - 25 minute periods

Procedure/ Outline

1. Teach song "Raining Cats and Dogs" and review over several days to become familiar
2. Discuss figurative and literal translations of water sayings found in "Project Wild" Curriculum Guide Book, page 435. Give selections from page 437.
3. Discuss background found on pages 435-7.
|4. Create additional verses to song using other proverbs.
5. ......other cultures 6) Add rainsticks and Orff and other percussive instruments

Assessment

1. Provide opportunities for individual input to creation of new song using new proverbs.
2. Addition of best use of percussive instrument that fits the songs
