Objectives

Students will work together to mimic the sounds of a thunderstorm - and to become aware of the thunderstorm sounds

Standards Addressed

None

Materials Needed

Paper, pencils, colors

Time Requirement

30 minutes

Procedure/ Outline

1. Have students get into a semi-circle in front of you. Instruct them that when you point to one of them, he or she needs to mimic the motion you are going. The student needs to continue making that motion until you point to him/her again. At that point, change your motion. Start with student at one end and go through all students not changing motion until you reach the 1st student again. This will create a crescendo as the sound created moves from one end to the other. Examples of motions: rub hands together, snap fingers, clap hands, slap hands on legs (have one student turn lights on and off at this point), stomp feet, then reverse the motions.
2. Have students discuss how each motion would relate to the thunderstorms they have been in.
3. Have students draw a picture and write a story about a thunderstorm they have experienced

Modifications /Adaptions/ Extensions

Make a recording of the thunderstorm you have create in your classroom and play it back to the students

Assessment
