Objectives

Students will describe how plants function in the water cycle & their importance in the wetlands.

Standards Addressed

SCI 1a; 2f; 3a,c,d,h; 4a; 5e

Materials Needed

wetland plant, Wetlands Discovery Guide pg. 58, gravel, water, measuring cups, beakers, red food coloring, magnifying glass, masking tape & marker, clear plastic bag

Time Requirement

one 45-60 class period & 10 minutes on several days

Procedure/outline

Activity 1: Predict outocme of plants in beakers when red dyed water is introduced. Watch for a few days. Activity 2: Cut cross section of the stem & identify the vascular system.

Modifications/Adaptions/ Extensions

Guides for prediction & data collection.

Assessment

Students will draw & label the vascular system.
