Objectives

I.D. sources of disease transmission & recognize how easily disease can be spread by contact.

Materials Needed

Water, clean spray bottle, soap, glitter, treats

Time Requirement

50 minutes

Procedure/outline

1) Students will share hands for 1 minute with a secret disease carrier who has a damp cloth & glitter. 2) Students will see how much glitter is on their hands which represents germs. 3) Contaminate class with glitter & provide a treat to the class. 4) Explain how glitter represents infections. 5) 5 students will properly wash their hands/5 to wash with cold H2O-determine if hand washing affected glitter amounts.

Modifications/Adaptions/ Extensions

Investigate local water health issues. Compare soaps for hand washing/vary time that hands are washed & compare cleanliness.

Assessment

Students will identify simples practices for disease prevention.
