Objectives
To understand the importance of the surroundings of healthy wetlands for animal protection. Effects of pollution on animals, predator/prey relationships.
Standards Addressed
Animal adaptation, environment, populations & communities. |
10-20 small objects to be camouflaged around the classroom, tape, clock
Time Requirement
50 minutes (could possibly be two 50 min. class periods) |
Procedure/outline
1. Make a list of items to be hidden. 2. "Hide" items throughout the room. 3. When students come in, tell them you have camouflaged animals in the room and that they are the predators. 4. Have students "hunt" for animals. They should record where to find the animals but not to remove them or tell other predators. Show them the list of "hidden" animals. 6. Discuss which animals are most likely/or least likely to survive and why. 7. Apply to actual wetland animals. 8. Discuss effects of pollution on animal coloring.
Modifications/Adaptions/ Extensions
Have the students do the camouflaging. Draw pictures of animals in wetlands. Extend to prairies, lakes, oceans, deserts, etc. |
Assessment
