Procedure/outline
Discuss/review stars and constellations covered to date-remind students of "landmarks" in northern sky-seperate & different from southern hemisphere. Hand out front & back panels and star dials to each student-cut out and glue on cardboard to fit. Have students work in cooperative groups to find today's sky. Practice with a few dates from other times of the year and then have student complete worksheet. |
Modifications/Adaptions/ Extensions
If possible, I'd bring my telescope and a few pairs of binoculars to the school yard one evening for any students who could come view the skies. Rewriting parts of the worksheet, working in small groups, cutting ahead of time to save on class instruction time. |
Assessment
Planisphere worksheet |
Other Comments
If students could come in an evening, I'd try to issue some form of extra credit for them presenting a project on what they did & saw, to be given to the rest of the class using multiple intelligences. |
