1)Explore why some water pollutants are not easily seen. 2)Prepare various mixtures in water and write comparisons.
Standards Addressed
Materials Needed
Beakers, water, milk, black construction paper, scissors, projector, plastic cups, spoons, salt, glitter, cooking oil, tape, paper towels, making mixtures hand-out
Time Requirement
50 minutes
Procedure/outline
Ask if the student thinks the air in the classroom is clean & clear. Shin a beam of light across the classroom. Discuss what they see. Fill one beaker with water and the other one with milk. The milk sample will appear cloudy while the water sample is clear. Using the making mixtures handout, students will mix different substances and record their observations.
Modifications/Adaptions/ Extensions
I would use this as an extension of my science kit called Mystery Powders.
Assessment
Are they able to prepare the mixtures correctly? Classify mixtures based on observations.
