Objectives

To study the importance of Bison to the prairies.

Standards Addressed

Materials Needed

Bison/Buffalo information, internet, Buddalo Chip frisbee or white frisbee painted brown

Time Requirement

1-2 class periods

Procedure/outline

Discuss with class the importance of the buffalo to our prairies and Red River area. Stress use of buffalo chips. Outdoor activity: divide classes in half. Select one student from each team to be "Big Buffalo". Student stands in hoop or tire opposite side of where their team assembles. Object is to toss buffalo chip from one end of the field to opposite end where your "Big Buffalo" is standing. You are allowed 3 steps before you must release buffalo chip. Have fun.

Assessment

In class assessment of student knowledge about buffalo purpose-re quiz or written assignment.

Other Comments
