Objectives
Recognize the roles of condensation and evaporation in the water cycle. Relate
water cycle to different ecosystems
Standards Addressed
Learning about the water cycle, evaporation and condensation |
Hot plate, frying pans, ice and gloves for protection
Time Requirement
50 minutes |
Procedure/ Outline
Discuss the properties of the 3 major climates: Polar, Temperate and Tropical.
Discuss the water cycle. Heat one pan of water on the hot plate. When water
vapor is rising from the boiling water hold the other pan of ice cubes above the
hot pan using gloves to observe the condensation and precipitation
Modifications /Adaptions/ Extensions
Record the mass of ice cubes (any quantity) and store them for two weeks in a
freezer, check the mass for evidence of sublimation |
Assessment
Students will draw a model of the water cycle of describe the water cycle based
upon this demonstration
