Objectives

Students will understand that most of the water they use comes from the Red River and to identify a river as a stream of moving water

Materials Needed

Project WET Curriculum and Activity Guide (p. 195), Our World of Water Activity Book-Moorhead Public Services (p 5), River Watch handout (Prairie Public), "Big Rivers" (The Watercourse and WOW), Field trips to Red River

Time Requirement

None

Procedure/ Outline

 

1. Using page 5 (Where Do We Get Water) introduce water source for Fargo community
2. Using both River Watch worksheet and "Big Rivers" as resources, teacher reads and shares information about rivers and surrounding habitat. 
3. Using ND map color rivers blue. 
4. Take a field trip to Red River and make observations using Sensory Observation Sheet (p 195)
