Objectives
To try and correlate the maximum total discharge and flooding conditions. Also
so students get a "visual picture" versus just looking at numbers
Standards Addressed
Standard 2 - Science |
Graph papers, calculators, total discharge number of local stream
(historically), data sheets (USGS)
Time Requirement
100 minutes/2 class periods |
Procedure/ Outline
Describe & explain the idea of discharge. Use diagrams, examples and video footage to help get a point across (limitless choices). Hand out data sheets with the discharge totals. Use the closest stream data possible to have students have a "sense" of their surroundings. Review the 6 steps on how to graph. Let them at it. After completing graph, have students answer questions that will use the graph to do so
Modifications /Adaptions/ Extensions
Can also be done by entering the data onto a spreadsheet. This could also lead
to other multimedia uses. Could possibly need some spill over time for a third
class period |
Assessment
Grading their graphs for precision, accuracy, neatness and make sure the
questions are answered correctly
